About Boat Certification
Boat Certification - Origins and Philosophy
How We Started
CEproof Wales, North West & Ireland is run by Ian Curtis and Craig Morris. Between them Ian and Craig have nearly fifty years of experience in the marine industry. In 2003 CEproof (East Coast) Ltd was formed. The company has established itself as a leader in the industry, specialising in the Recreational Craft Directive. Working with some of the UK's and Europe's largest boat builders and boat importers, CEproof helps its customers ensure that the craft that they build or import achieve compliance with EU standards. CEproof have offices around the world and we all work very closely with each other to ensure that our customers receive outstanding service.
In 2006 Bob Scott, Director of CEproof Wales and North West Ltd decided to move on to pastures new. After many years as a Chief Engineer on ocean-going ships and small boat construction as a hobby, Bob Scott started his own business as a marine surveyor. With his professional approach and award-winning, easily understood reports, he quickly built a reputation for reliability and excellent service. This led him to base his survey office in Conwy, close to many of North Wales' and the North West' coastal ports and marinas.
Development of the company later enabled boat certification to be undertaken, such as CE marking under the Recreational Craft Directive, and MCA coding through MECAL and the YDSA. From small boat owners through to commercial builders there was a growth in demand for help with current legislation in conjunction with our other certification services. High demand for certification work, particularly CE marking, led to the decision to concentrate on this area only and discontinue the more general forms of vessel survey.
As experts in CE Marking and already running CEproof (East Coast) Ltd, Ian Curtis and Craig Morris were a natural choice for Bob to approach when the decision had been made to move on.
